John Zimmer's colourful My Self-Defense Blog is one of the best in the world on the subject of martial arts.
I have once again been asked to provide a guest post at another blog. This time, John Zimmer over at My Self-Defense Blog selected my article about the effectiveness of grappling/BJJ against multiple attackers. The post is now live at Grappling/BJJ Against Multiple Attackers; Is it Effective?
John’s blog is one of the best in the world in the area of self defense and martial arts. His colourful stories about his experience as a bouncer and tournament fighter make his blog a great read for all martial artists. He is one guy that “walks the walk”, and was on the Tracy/American Kenpo Karate fighting team in the bad old days. For all you Kenpo people out there, it is a good find for some history of the Tracy branch of American Kenpo, with many of the legends and their exploits explained in great detail. Check out this page in particular. Kenpo History and Discussion.
This is one subject that gets people fired up, the discussion of grappling vs. stand-up fighting; everyone has strong opinions about it. It is sure to be an interesting topic, so please get in there and throw your opinion in the ring. All opinions are respected on John’s blog, and it does not matter if you agree with me or not. As always, I appreciate your support.
I’ve been searching on the web trying to find ideas on how to get my personal blog site coded, your present style and theme are wonderful. Did you code it your self or did you recruit a coder to get it done for you personally?
I designed it myself in Photoshop, auslander. I coded the css, but the theme is Thesis, built on wordpress. Recommend it highly. Thanks for your comment and also for the complement.
Congrats Sensei
Thanks Shandor. It is going well. People are leaving comments on the blog.
Awesome I will check it out Sensei, So to every one a Very Merry Xmas & a Awesome & a Happy New Year to all Keep safe & see you all next year, Oooos!
I checked out his site and he has wonderful content on martial arts. I don’t like the dark background with the bright white content and I can’t read his writings for too long, but he does offer good blogging.
Hi Elmer and welcome back! I have heard this from a few people about the content. I used a much duller shade of white to prevent exactly what you are talking about. Perhaps I need to re-think my design. As you can see from my original post this year http://karate-kids.com.au/kids-karate-sensei-becomes-white-belt-again/ , I am only a rookie. Thanks.
Sensei Matt, I’m still learning also…you’re site is much easier on the eyes than Mr. Zimmer
s. However, both of you have great content and don’t have the dog-eat-dog mentality of some websites.
Personally, I really liked the dark background with white font when I started my website. However, a friend of mine – and a blogger who makes at least $1,000/month in income told me to change my site contrast. He said people tend to read longer with the opposite contrast of a light background and dark text. I took his advice and so far it’s working for me.
So I encourage to keep writing Sensei Matt! I look forward to your future posts! Elmer
